Three Fax Stars get on their bikes for Charity

Tuesday 18th December 2012

Three Fax Stars get on their bikes for Charity Story in brief:
Lycra suits them!

Three of Halifax RLFC's  First team squad are doing a bike ride for the Charity, Heartbeat of Sport.

The three lads, Tony Tonks, Adam Robinson and Scott Murrell will be riding to Bridlington on January 16th a round trip of 145 miles and they'd like as many sports fans as possible to sponsor them.

"It's a great cause"  said Tony Tonks, "and we are determined to raise lots of money. we  don't want to pedal all that way for nowt!  But as well as raising money,  we also want to raise the profile of the charity"

They have planned a particularly difficult route to travel, choosing to cycle through Castleford, Allerton, Bywater, Selby and Driffield before landing in Bridlington for a well deserved rest. On the return leg, they will also travel the same route.

The lads have set themselves a target time of 8 hours to complete the task, and they hope to have reached their destinations on each day by 4:00 pm. During their cycle, they will stop twice for 15 minutes recovery and to replenish lost minerals and carbohydrates with supplements.

The reason for them doing the cycle is to raise awareness about the dangers of Sudden Cardiac Arrest in sports and to raise the funding to provide sports clubs and organisations across the country with defibrillators and certified AED (Automated External Defibrillator) CPR training. Training which is vital when a sudden cardiac arrest occurs on a sports pitch.

With this kind of equipment and training being provided by Heartbeat of Sport, more and more clubs across the UK will be in a position to save a life confidently and more importantly in the correct manner before the emergency services arrive to take hold of the reigns. Make no mistake about it, AED's can and do save lives. It takes less than 5 minutes for someone suffering from a Sudden Cardiac Arrest to be at risk of death, and this is something that everybody at Heartbeat of Sport want to remedy.

The boys will be wearing Heartbeat of Sport clothing during their cycle, so if anybody sees them on their way, then please help them out and give them the motivation to complete their task on time. Heartbeat of Sport would also like to welcome any companies or individuals who would like to sponsor our boys on their cycle and we are offering the chance for them to place their company logo's or messages on our kit.

Remember, Sudden Cardiac Arrest does cost lives and Automated External Defibrillators save them. The more defibrillators and training that Heartbeat can provide, then the more lives we can save together. Help us save lives!

If you want to support this initiative and it's one well worth sponsoring you can do so either at http://www.heartbeatofsport.org/ or  at the Halifax RLFC   at info@halifaxrlfc.co.uk

Please get behind this charity bike ride and make the lads' efforts  worth while
