Thursday 4th November 2010

Chandler Signs Up Story in brief:

HALIFAX have signed 21 year old forward Joe Chandler from Championship One outfit Oldham. The Dewsbury-born player, who began his career with Leeds Rhinos before joining the Roughyeds for 2010, has signed a one year contract with the Co-operative Championship Grand Final winners. Chandler featured in every game as Tony Benson's side made it as far as the promotion play off at Warrington on Grand Final day, playing mainly as a back rower.

"A few people have recommended Joe to me" said Calland, "He is a strong player and has a good work ethic. He played in the Back Row last year at Oldham but I mainly see him as a prop. That is what he came through at Leeds as and I want to create a good amount of competition in the Front Row."

Joe adds a youth element to the side and will be looking to learn from experienced players such as Jim Gannon and Dave Larder.

"We want a good mix of youth and experience next season. So far I think we have that and the younger players have a great chance to learn. Having the U23s will help this process and I am excited to see what Joe can offer."
