Halifax travel to the Sheffield Eagles on Friday night in round two of the Kingstone Press Championship as they look to follow up their dominant win over Whitehaven on the opening day.
The now full-time Eagles, who finished third in last year’s Championship, are set to be a tough test for Richard Marshall’s side as they look to carry on their good start to this year’s campaign.
Last time out
Fax started this season as they ended the last with a 52 point haul. Steve Tyrer equalled the clubs all-time record of 32 points in a game to help Halifax sit top of the table after round one.
The Eagles sit in second place after a commanding victory at Workington Town by 42 points to 12 and will be looking to build on that impressive display in their first home game of the 2016 Championship on Friday.
Richard Marshall has named an unchanged squad for Friday night’s clash. The squad is as follows:
Luke Ambler, Ed Barber, Mitch Cahalane, Ross Divorty, Jacob Fairbank, Ben Johnston, Ben Kaye, Ryan Maneely, Dane Manning, Gareth Moore, Richard Moore, Scott Murrell, Adam Robinson, Connor Robinson, James Saltonstall, Will Sharp, Sam Smeaton, Adam Tangata, Steve Tyrer.
Richard Marshall will be keen to ensure Rob Worrincy doesn’t come back to haunt his former club again. The winger picked up his first try of the campaign last week at Workington and will keen to prove his worth to his former employers once more.
Centre Menzie Yere will have his work cut out against former Eagles man Sam Smeaton and the in-form Steve Tyrer in what is sure to be a key battle in Friday night’s clash. Boss Mark Aston will be hoping Yere’s experience will help his side achieve a top four finish again this season.
Halifax narrowly lost out 28-24 in round 3 of the Super 8’s when they travelled to the Keepmoat last August.
Former Fax winger Rob Worrincy scored a hat-trick of tries against Halifax for the second time last year as the Eagles came from behind multiple times to leave a bitter taste in the away sides mouths.
