Halifax RLFC Head Coach, Richard Marshall and Salford Red Devils boss, Ian Watson, have been putting their heads – and squads – together, following a brilliant show of talent in the pre-season friendly at the Shay last Sunday.
“Myself and Ian have a great relationship, we both feel like it will be a great opportunity for two talented young players to get a feel for Super League, when Salford Reds face Hull FC this weekend.” Commented Richard Marshall.
Supporters reacted with wildly different opinions when the dual registration deal was announced between the two clubs back in December. Since then, support has echoed through social media, particularly regarding a great performance from our recent Salford loan player, Liam Bent.
21-year-old Centre, Chester Butler (Grandson of Halifax and Salford legend Colin Dixon) and Ex-Salford academy winger, Connor McGrath both made their way through our reserve grade after last season. Chester has officially secured a first team squad number for 2017 after 4 successful first team performances in 2016. Connor also made his debut with the side in our pre-season friendly V Featherstone, and Richard is watching his development with keen eyes.
“They asked for two outside backs and we’ve provided them. For a team without a reserve grade, I definitely think the one-match loan period will show how this partnership can be mutually beneficial for both Clubs” continued Marshall.
”Chester proved himself last year and Connor is a strong contender for the squad this year. Both players have incredible potential and I know they will show that on Sunday.”
