Halifax RLFC can today announce that long-standing board member Peter McNamara has resigned from the club's board of directors due to personal commitments.
Mark Moore, Chairman of the board, thanked Pete for his valuable input over the years.
"The board would like to confirm that we have been in talks with Peter McNamara over the last couple of weeks with reference his position at the club. We can confirm with immediate effect that Peter is stepping down as a board member but is still staying within the club as a Non – Executive Director. Peter has been a great asset to the Club over many years and I know that he will still help in any way he can to ensure that Halifax prospers although his loss will leave a difficult gap to fill, we will all continue to do what we believe is in the best interests of the Club. It is a huge responsibility being on the Board of Directors and requires many hours of voluntary work, which not everyone appreciates. I would like to extend my appreciation for all Peter has done during my time at the Club and he will definitely be someone I will go to for advice on our continuing journey."
Pete wanted to thank everyone at the club for their support and well wishes.
"I just want to thank everyone that I have had the pleasure to work with over the years," said McNamara. "Staff, fans, players, sponsors and fellow board members, you are all friends. It's been an honour for me to be involved with our great club and I will continue to offer my assistance if required, albeit not as a board member. I have tried my best but family and life circumstances have to take priority for us all. Times are difficult for Rugby League at present and there is an uncertain future regarding the restructuring of the game from 2019 so I urge all Halifax fans both past and present to do what they can, if they can, to help our club thrive both on and off the field of play."
Fellow Commercial Director Paul Haggerty: "I would like to thank Peter for all he has done and will continue to do in the Non-Executive Role he now holds. I have known Peter for over 20 years as a friend and know he is a true fan, in fact, if you cut him in half, he's blue and white. He now has to take time available with his family and that as he says must be the priority albeit I know he will still be doing what he can for the club.
We look forward to seeing him on the terraces and in the Ivy House so again thank you for all your input and commitment but also for being a key reason why I joined the board myself."
Simon Oxby, Operations Director also added:
“During my short period of time on the Board of Directors of Halifax RLFC, I have come to realise what a proud Club this is and the personnel, players, Richard, the fans, Supporters Trust, Supporters Groups, previous Directors and my fellow Directors and Executive Chairman all want the Club to be a success on and off the field. Peter welcomed me onto the Board and his enthusiasm and commitment in trying to bring revenue into the Club is admirable and I am so glad that even though he has stepped down from the Board, he has committed to assist us going forward as a non-executive Director. Peter will be greatly missed and as Mark says, his boots will be hard to fill. I also want to reiterate Marks comments on the fact that he and my fellow Directors do our work on a voluntary basis for the love of the Club, in between juggling our full-time careers and family life, as most of our supporters do; so thank you to everyone concerned and especially Peter, who I now consider a friend too. Onwards and upwards!“
The club would like to place on record our gratitude for Pete's efforts over the years and wish him all the very best of luck in the future.
