Awarded in front of over 25,000 people at the Dacia Magic Weekend, Halifax RLFC’s own Stephen Gibbs claimed two prestigious Rugby League awards. The first of which brought Gibb’s college team, Wakefield Trinity College on the field to celebrate their great success this year, as they received the Colleges Team of the Year.
Following which, the Halifax Reserves player earnt an individual award for outstanding performance in the Colleges season. According to the RFL, the Male College Player of the Year Award is presented to the player who has excelled on the field consistently throughout the College RL season. The level 3 Sports student follows in the footsteps of James Woodburn-Hall, a previous reserves player who solidified his place in the first team squad, after winning Male University Player of the Year in 2017.
“It's a big achievement - an honor, really”, Gibbs told us proudly. Although Stephen sustained an injury to his jaw during the final, he continued “It was a great day and hopefully, I'll carry on doing well in the Reserves."
