Halifax RLFC can today announce the capture of Bradford Bulls back rower Matt Garside for the 2020 season.
Garside moves to The Shay from The Tetleys Stadium having previously enjoyed spells in the Championship with London Broncos and Sheffield Eagles, and becomes our 5th close season signing.
Speaking following the announcement, Garside commented: "I'm really happy to be here. I was coming to the end of my contract at Bradford Bulls having been there for two years and met up with Simon Grix
for a coffee one day. Had a long chat with him and really bought into his plans for where he wants to take the club. He mentioned a few signings that he wanted to make and I'm happy to be here for the future. I'd like to say i'm hard working, quite reliable. First and foremost, my aim is to try and earn the respect of my teammates and then the fans around me by just putting in the hard work week in and week out, try to get to the top of the league and to push for promotion."
Garside is no stranger to the Shay having played in the 2019 Good Friday Derby and was full of compliments for his new surroundings. "Yeah it's a great stadium. You always know you're in for a tough afternoon when you come here and play Halifax. They're a tough group of lads who work hard for each other and I'm just really happy to be a part of that."
The back rower juggles a career in teaching alongside his rugby league expoloits. And his new head coach was pleased to welcome his new academic recruit. "Matt is an intelligent and driven character who understands the requirements of his position. He is experienced and has high standards for himself. I feel he will prove a great addition to the team."
