Sheriffe appointed Assistant Coach

Halifax Rugby League Club are pleased to announce that former winger Rikki Sheriffe has been appointed to Simon Grix's team as Assistant Coach ahead of the 2020 season.

The Flyer donned the blue and white of Fax through two seperate spells with the club during his playing career, scoring 51 tries in 81 outings, a 63% strike rate.

Fax boss Grix was happy to add to his staff set up with a familiar face.

"Rikki knows the club and obviously having played together here many years ago we have been friends a long time. He brings a wealth of playing experience having played top level league and union, in addition to coaching experience form recent years in League 1 with Keighley and over at Dewsbury this last year. He will slot in nicely with Muzza and myself, which will allow muzza to focus on his playing and training responsibilities week to week so we can see the best of him in 2020."

"We have a similar outlook on the game and how we wish to be perceived as an outfit. He will provide me with a day to day sounding board, a devil's advocate if you like. This, along with other coaching mentors, will challenge and develop my coaching abilities as we all strive to improve."

Sheriffe brings with him a wealth of knowledge of the world of rugby, having also enjoyed a spell in the 15 man code with Newcastle Falcons. And the 35 year old was delighted to be returning back at the scene of his first professional contract.

"It’s great to be back where it all started for me in my professional career as a player. Halifax is a club with a successful history & one which I’m excited to be a part of again. When the opportunity came up to work alongside Simon, being good friends on and off the field, it was a no brainer. Simon, Muzza and Andy have some great ideas to take this club forward and I’m looking forward to contributing what I’ve learned in my playing and coaching career."

"Having seen the 2020 squad, we definitely have the foundations for a great season and to develop a strong team for years to come. I’m really looking to getting back to The Shay to get started."
