Halifax Rugby League Club are pleased to announce the retention of promising young forward Will Calcott, as the homegrown prop puts pen to paper on a deal to keep him at the club for the 2020 season.
A product of the recently departed Reserve Grade Structure, Calcott is a success story of the structures put in place by Grix's predecessor, Richard Marshall, having come all the way from the local amateur game to earn a first team spot at his hometown club.
The former Siddal and Illingworth junior progressed through the Scott Murrell-led Academy set up at Calderdale College, before integrating into the reserve team at Fax and eventually securing a first team squad number.
Calcott spent time out on loan during the previous season at Championship strugglers Rochdale Hornets. And Fax boss Simon Grix believes Calcott must knuckle down to nail a permanent spot in the starting line up.
"Will had a frustrating season after showing promise early, between a couple of niggles and limited opportunities due to the competition for the position he plays. With similar competition this coming season Will will need to get his head down and work extremely hard throughout pre season. I am excited to see him take up the challenge and fight to represent his hometown."
Calcott added: "It’s great to be staying with my hometown team, there’s new challenges for me this season and I’m really looking forward to getting started."
